Maarten Loos has been working as a vascular surgeon at Máxima MC since December 2014. He specializes in minimally invasive vascular surgery. His main interests lie in expanding endovascular treatment options within vascular surgery, enabling vulnerable vascular patients to receive the most effective and least invasive care possible. “Thanks to innovative treatment techniques and advanced medical equipment, it is increasingly possible to perform procedures without fully exposing the blood vessels. Instead, we can often operate through only a few small puncture sites. Not everything has to be done with the scalpel anymore. This spares patients from major surgery and makes treatment safer.”

In addition, Loos works closely with sports physicians Edwin Achterberg and Paul Schreuder, as well as exercise scientist Martijn van Hooff, on the diagnosis and treatment of vascular conditions in endurance athletes, such as cyclists and speed skaters. This multidisciplinary team at Máxima MC is part of an STZ TEC Center of Excellence, dedicated to delivering innovative and highly specialized care for athletes with exercise-related vascular disorders.

Scientific Research

In 2011, Loos obtained his PhD from Maastricht University with his dissertation entitled “Surgical Management of Chronic Inguinal Pain Syndromes”, focusing on chronic pain following inguinal hernia repair. He is currently involved in research on a variety of topics within vascular surgery.
